Welcome to the Georgetown Atelier

The Georgetown Atelier offers a comprehensive training in classical drawing and painting. It is both a full-time program that runs Monday-Thursday during the academic calendar, and is also a weekly class that meets each Tuesday during the academic calendar. Both programs are intended for students seeking to build a thorough foundation in these subjects. The curriculum is composed of an array of methodology spanning from the Renaissance to present day. It is roughly a 3 year program, is project based and cumulative- meaning each project builds upon the experience of the latter. Most students will naturally excel more in certain areas of study and struggle proportionately more in others, so for this reason the timeline is customized for each student to match their needs and extend the areas that need the most work.

Full time students attend Monday-Thursday, 9:30am – 4:30pm of each week during academic trimesters. Fridays are kept as ‘individual free’ days, and students are encouraged to use this time to prepare canvases, transfer drawings, and experiment with areas of the curriculum outside of their current place The weekly class meets each Tuesday during academic trimesters. From 9:30am-12:30pm students work from the live figure, break for lunch from 12:30-1:30, and then work on individual projects such as cast drawing/painting, master-copy, and still-life. Full time students have a permanent 24hr access space within the atelier which they use for all non-figure studio work. Each Tuesday and Thursday the instructor is present for the duration of the day to work with students individually as well as the class as a whole.
